Road Closure This Weekend

Dear Resident

Please remember the proposed road closures this weekend, and the diversion route:

This is the map & information from National Grid about the closure of the A1306 in the vicinity of Essex Arena.

Traffic will be diverted via Burghley Road in South Chafford via Fenner Road and through to Lakeside.

As most of us know, this route is quite busy most of the time and although National Grid have worked with the Council and Lakeside to reduce interruptions, I have expressed my concerns about the noise level and gridlock - as this may include HGVs going down the route.

The Closure will take place on:

- 31 July and 13 August (7am – 6pm)
- But in addition on 3-4 August, 7-8 August and 11-12 August when there will also be overnight closures

The information will be posted along the pedestrian walkways in the vicinity of the A1306. Pedestrians will still be able to use the footpaths; however, at times when they are working overhead they may be required to close the footpaths for a short period of time (up to an hour). During this time pedestrians will be asked to wait until the area is safe.

Apologies if you do not use this route, if you do have any queries please call National Grid on 0800 021 7878.

Regards

National Grid Road Closure in Chafford

Dear Resident

Please see below the details of the letter I received from National Grid warning about the proposed road closure:

To ensure our work can be carried out safely and efficiently we will be required to close the A1306 in the vicinity of Essex Arena from 9 to 14 June, and again from 31 July (tbc) for two weeks.

To help walkers we have kept the pedestrian footpaths open. However, at times when
we are working overhead we may be required to close the footpaths for short periods of time (up to one hour). During this time pedestrians will be asked to wait until the area is safe. Information will be posted along the route, please see attached.

These works are being carried out by the Electricity Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Balfour Beatty. Normal working hours will be between 7.30am and 6.30pm, although occasional out-of-hours work may be necessary. Due to the essential nature of these works, please note that we will be working alternate weekends throughout the project that includes 5-6 June, 19-20 June, 3-4 July, 17-18 July. These works should be complete by winter 2009.

We are sorry for any inconvenience these essential works may cause residents and businesses in the area. Please be assured that we will make every effort to complete the project as quickly and considerately as possible.

As work continues we will advise you of any updates. If you have any queries or require any further information, our community relations team are on hand and can by contacted by calling 0800 021 7878.

Yours sincerely

Peter Bullen
Project Engineer

National Grid Works - Update

I took time yesterday to drive round South Chafford with a representative of National Grid. (Those residents who came to the Community Forum meeting last week would have met him there).

We went to observe the work going on at each location and he confirmed that National Grid will be on site till about October 2010.

The sites are:
  • Chafford Hundred Station Car Park
  • Howard Road - behind Travel Lodge
  • Rawlyn Close
  • Grenville Road
  • Southwell Close - alternative parking has been provided
In all cases, the grass will be re-planted once the job is finished, and it will be monitored to ensure that it is 'put-right'.

If you have any issues or complaints about the work, or any related noise or traffic issues, please either:

National Grid Works on Pylons in Chafford

National Grid will soon commence work on the pylons in South Chafford.

This will most likely impact directly on residents in Howard Road and around Grenville.

I have asked National Grid for assurances that the will be mindful of the impact on residents, stating to them the fact that:

"there are loads of pylons which are behind properties in Howard Road down to Grenville Road...

Heddingham Road is the only route for all residents of Heddingham, Parnell Close, Harper Close, Grenville Road, Rawlyn Close, Sewell Close and Southwell Close."

I am due to meet with the company before the end of the month so if you experience any difficulties or have any concerns, please contact me via:

Overhead Line Refurbishment Project: Tilbury - Lakeside

For your Information:

Possible delays or road diversions make take place between Tilbury to Lakeside due to the work by Electricity Alliance to refurbish the overhead electricity transmission line.

There will be laying of temporary roadways to provide safe access to work areas and, where the power lines cross roads or public rights of way, scaffolding may be erected overhead. Work will then begin on the main body of the project and is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2010.

Normal working hours will be betwee 7:30am - 6:30pm, however, occasional out-of-hours and weekend working may be necessary.

They apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause, and assure residents that efforts will be taken to complete the project as quickly and considerately as possible.

For any queries please contact Cllr Tunde Ojetola or the Company on 0800 021 7878.
