Sustrans Report

For Cycle enthusiasts

You'll be interesting in knowing that Sustrans has published the National Cycle Network Route User Monitoring Report.

"In the potential carbon dioxide saving of all journeys made on the National Cycle Network in 2006 was over 450,000 tonnes. This is the equivalent of taking just under 200,000 cars off the road."

Cyclists Route

I have today signed off an additional £58,000 funding for the N13 cycle route which runs off the rear of Vopak's land in West Thurrock.

This is separate from the amounts earmarked in this years work programme. The work should be completed before the end of March 2008.

Additionally, I am quite pleased that the Sustrans Rangers have agreed (for a small fee) to help monitor and where possible keep tidy cycle routes in the Borough.

Good deal for cyclists all round then, and a good reason to cycle - especially after the Christmas festivities.

Have a wonderful new year.

Cycle Network Launch

I think this is good news for all cyclists in Chafford and the Borough.

On Friday (19 Oct) Thurrock Council, Thames Gateway DC and the Cycle Forum (all in partnership) will launch new cycling initiatives designed to cut pollution and encourage more local people to cycle. Cycling not only helps the environment by limiting the number of short journeys we take in our cars, but helps keep the residents healthier and active

It will provide a top of the range cycle route which can realistically offer commuters an alternative to driving.

For more information concerning the network, please contact me.
