    Election Results

Although Thurrock did not have any elections this year, there were elections across many other Borough's in England.  I have reproduced the overall results below

    South Chafford Candidates - results

South Chafford has elected Charlie Keys as Ward Councillor.

I welcome Charlie on board.  I am sure he will serve South Chafford residents with as much vigor and commitment as his predecessor Steve Veryard.

    Our priorities this year include:

    • Campaigning for another School in Chafford
    • Improve road conditions to ensure that road work is done to repair the bumps, repaint yellow lines, etc.
    • Improve areas around Schools to protect children, staff and parents, but also to take on the views of residents who live in the vicinity of schools.
Below is the new list of seats allocation of Thurrock councillors:

    South Chafford Ward

ANOTHER of the straightforward seats. At least it should be. With its huge swathes of aspirational middle classes, Chafford has come to symbolise a forward thinking progressive Thurrock on the one hand or simply a dormitory for people to live.
The recession has touched Chafford. Housing developments such as the one in Howard Road have laid dormant for over a year and unemployment levels have been rising.
But it has a positive buzz about it, symbolised by the growing success of Harris Academy (Chafford Hundred).
Indeed Lord Harris of Peckham has been a major donor to Thurrock MP, Jackie Doyle Price.
South Chafford has had the benefit of having Tunde Ojetola as its councillor for a few years now and it looks like he will be joined by son of Stanford, Charlie Key.
Charlie stood at Grays Riverside in 2010 and ran a highly professional campaign. He also gave a huge amount of help to the Jackie Doyle Price campaign.
At the very least, standing as a councillor will be a solid part of his CV as he moves on in life. Charlie is one of the youngest members of the Stanford Rotary Club.
At the most, he could bring a considered, intelligent contribution to the council and could move up in many years time to be a solid deputy leader. ......

Thurrock Conservatives offer strong manifesto | Local Government

Thurrock Conservatives offer strong manifesto | Local Government:

    Thurrock Conservatives offer strong manifesto

It's all happening in Thurrock. Already there has been the independently run pollshowing overwhelming support for a referendum on withdrawal from the EU.
But it will also have a high profile in the council elections. It has a minority Labour administration - there are 24 Labour councillors against 22 Conservatives and a couple of independents. So this must be Labour's first target for gaining a council. Given that these seats were last contested in 2008 - when the Conservatives ended up 20% ahead of Labour nationally - there must be the expectation that they will succeed.
But then on that logic Boris Johnson would give up on his election campaign on the basis that a Livingstone victory would a racing certainty.
The Thurrock Conservatives have certainly not given up on the chance of winning.
They have produced a strong manifesto full of sound ideas.
    On housing allocation it says:
We will prioritise allocation of council houses to people and families who work hard to help themselves, have a strong local connection, and contribute to their local communities.
We believe that years spent serving your country mean more than years spent on a waiting list. Returning members of the armed forces will be given greater priority in housing allocations.
    On schools it says:
We will reduce the amount of schools money that the council keeps centrally (currently over £10 million per year). We will pass the savings directly to local schools, for head-teachers and governors to set their own priorities.
We will help schools work together to buy the support services that they decide they still need (some of our secondary's have already saved up to 50% by doing this).
We will end Labour’s culture of hostility towards free and academy schools, and work with them as equal partners in improving education for children in Thurrock.
    On democracy it says:
Thurrock’s year-on-year electoral system has given us expensive elections, weak administrations, and politicians who are too focused on winning votes. We will consult with you on changies to the system used by many other local authorities, where you elect the whole council at once for a four year term.
Despite being in opposition the Conservatives managed to vote through a 0.25% cut in Council Tax last year. They would hope to achieve a rather larger cut if actually running the council.
    Good luck to them.

    Chafford Hundred & North Stifford

Ward by Ward: Chafford Hundred and North Stifford
FOUR YEARS AGO, Tory councillor Garry Hague retained this ward by 476 votes. There is no reason to suggest he won’t be returned by a similar majority.
Yes, the recent national polls suggest that the Tories are now lagging behind Labour but as you may know, Thurrock can sometimes act as its very own political micro-climate.
The last real challenge to the Conservatives in Chafford was by the earnest Lib-Dem Earnshaw Palmer who lost by 93 votes in 2007.
Since then it has been plain sailing for the Conservatives (apart from Chaffrica and Steven Veryard’s wobble).
There may be many voters who are feeling a little squeezed right now but they may well not register their protest, they may well stay at home.
Garry clearly found it tough going leading the council and running a business. It was a job he inherited because of Terry Hipsey’s defection. There were so many poisoned chalices it was no wonder he didn’t drown in hemlock!
But he is not being judged on that. He probably won’t be judged on his political convictions which may be just as well as some may say that agreeing with the last person you spoke to is not really an ideology.
Garry appears to address the needs of his residents: campaigning on Devonshire Road, the masts issue, the community forum, regular contact through surgeries.....

Election Victory for Steve & Garry

Thank you for placing your trust in Steve, Garry and indeed the Conservative Team in Chafford.

Both Garry and Steve won their election's last night and they have pledged to continue working hard for the community.

Election Time - Cllr Steve and Cllr Garry need your vote on May 1st

Ensure you vote for STEVE VERYARD and GARRY HAGUE on MAY 1ST: Why? You may ask, well we are Conservatives: We deliver for Thurrock.

IN 2004, the Conservatives took control of Thurrock Council.

Since then, the Conservatives have delivered real results for the people of our borough.
We have delivered the lowest Council Tax in Essex while making improvements in key local services.

We have turned around failing services and invested more money in care and support for the elderly and vulnerable, in cleaning and greening our borough, and in our schools which have recently achieved some of their best ever results.

We have a record of achievement and a promise of more to come.

Over the next two years, we want to continue investing in key services.

We pledge to keep the Council Tax low

To campaign against unsustainable housing development and plans for 18,500 new homes across our borough.

We will continue working for a clean and green borough.

The key Tory policies in Thurock are:

    • Help families keep more of their own cash by continuing our track record of low Council Tax. The 2.5 per cent increase in 2008/9 was the lowest for nine years and the lowest in Essex.
    • Defend our green belt from unsustainable house building plans. There is a plan to build an additional 18,500 new houses in Thurrock.
    • Drive up recycling to protect our environment and ensure less rubbish goes into landfill sites. We will maintain a weekly collection and provide more facilites for recycling. Under the Conservatives recycling in Thurrock reached 30 per cent.
    • More Bobbies' on the beat including launching a Special Constable recruitment scheme.
    • Crack down on crime with more CCTV, PCSOs and a stronger Anti-Social Behaviour Team. Latest police figures indicate a nine per cent fall in Thurrock-based crime.
    • Continue to be tough on criminals by prosecuting and fining environmental offenders and graffiti vandals.
    • Thurrock's Conservative Council has fined around 500 people for offences such as littering, and successfully prosecuted nearly 50 fly tipping offenders.
    • Conservatives have also:
    • Delivered Thurrock's best ever GCSE results with 60 per cent getting 5 A* to C grades.
    • Invested an extra £400,000 in Children's Services to give the Borough's children a brighter future.
    • £2 million extra invested in social care to give the elderly and vulnerable the care they deserve
