Dear Residents
You will be pleased to know that the 3rd application for a mobile phone mast next to residential property was rejected by the Planning Committee earlier on today (Thursday 26th August 2010). I thank all those involved in the campaign against the mast especially Tracy Law and the NMOC Focus Group who spent countless hours dealing with the issue, collating information and even organising a barrister to speak against the application at the meeting.
Before we rest on our laurels and pat ourselves on the back, O2 have promised at the meeting they will continue applying till they get their goal.
They have now submitted another application to install a 10m mast off Fenner Road in South Chafford.
The Reference for this is 10/00651/TEL http://regs.thurrock.gov.uk/PublicAccess/tdc/DcApplication/application_detailview.aspx?caseno=L7G54GQG07V00
Please ensure you go to the website and register your objections on the following grounds:
1. Health and safety issues - the location will cause obstruction for the users of the footpath: residents walking their pets, cyclists and people using mobility vehicles.
2. Street scene - due to the height it will be quite conspicuous and as such will intrude on the street scene.
3. Proximity to properties - Due to its mass, scale and design the proposal is inappropriate to the location relating poorly to its immediate surroundings and the wider setting, resulting in the mast appearing visible from both the commercial street scene and also the nearby residential area to the detriment of the character and visual amenities of the area.
4. Proximity to Warren Primary School and to childcare centres - The location close to a local school, children’s play area and residential properties, combined with the mass, scale and high visibility of the development raises public concerns regarding the potential health impacts particularly upon children.
5. Lack of full consultation - O2 have repeatedly refused to embark on a full public consultation about their proposal. They have sent letters to a few residents, but have not responded to any of the queries raised, nor have they advised residents the outcome of the consultation.
6. O2's refusal to respond to correspondence - Residents and ward councillors letters suggesting other sites have been ignored.
7. O2's refusing to carry out the further research which they stated at the last planning committee.
I will keep you posted about this. Please feel free to contact me: tojetola@thurrock.gov.uk
