Four new staff to keep Chafford clean

Dear residents

Many of you have expressed concerns at the state of cleanliness of Chafford. This led over a thousand signatures supporting a residents petition demanding the Council to act.  (Thanks to Tony for your hard work in collecting the signatures).

I'm pleased to inform you that your efforts have been heard and that 4 officers will now be assigned to clean and tidy Chafford.

I'm sure you'll let me and my colleagues know if this isn't done properly.

If you are interested, the full extract of the response from the manager responsible in the Council is below:

"Following the budget restraints that were implemented at the beginning of this year, this caused us to change the way that we provide our front line services, hence the area street cleanser (Dave) was incorporated into a mobile service team that is responsible for all of Grays/W/Thurrock.

Recently it was agreed for us to employ a small number of staff to assist with the mowing of verges etc, this also enabled us to allocate 4 personnel to the chafford area, and this team will be covering all issues, the result of this will take a while to notice as we will be catching up.

This month will see the start of cycle paths hedge cutting and shrub works, as this has been on hold due to the Countryside and Wildlife Act that places restrictions on hedge cutting due to nesting birds.

As you are aware Chafford Hundred covers a vast area, the team will be stretched to cover all works but an improvement should soon be evident, we will try where possible to incorporate the operatives with the greatest knowledge of the area into this team as local knowledge of hot spots re litter will be invaluable."
