Ticket offices at three train stations could close (From Thurrock Gazette)

Ticket offices at three train stations could close (From Thurrock Gazette): "THREE ticket offices at Thurrock train stations are under threat of closure.

A report for the Department For Transport by Sir Roy McNulty recommends replacing ticket offices at several stations in South Essex, including East Tilbury, Chafford Hundred and Ockendon, with unmanned machines.

Union chiefs at the Transport Salaried Staffs Association said the “hit list”, which also includes Shoebury, Prittlewell, and West Horndon, could mean the loss of several jobs at smaller stations.

Union leader Gerry Doherty said: “Not only are unmanned stations less secure, tickets bought from machines are usually more expensive.”

The changes would be made at rail stations which generate less than £1million a year."
