Wednesday (30 March) evening's full council agreed several major policies for the council.
The Community Strategy was adopted and members agreed it should be used as a draft for further consultations with partner organisations and the Corporate Plan and Medium Term Financial Strategy 2011-15 was also agreed, aligning the council's priorities and spending plans as well as creating a stable financial base.
The Single Equality Scheme was approved and members also supported 99 per cent of the proposed changes to the Constitution - the single exception relating to planning meetings where further discussions are to be held.
The meeting also considered and agreed four motions unanimously - asking the government to extend the publication of £500-plus invoices to all "public bodies and their major contract holders"; requesting the council's cabinet to consider looking at utilising the buildings it, and its partners, own in South Ockendon to create a one-stop-shop; creating a Thurrock Services Veterans Charter; and investigating whether the waste and recycling team can improve its efficiency.
A fifth motion requested the Chief Executive to write to the government in support of students at colleges like the Performers' College in Thurrock seeking to maintain the Dance and Drama Awards scheme.
