Gritting Update

Further update on today:-

The Gritting Crews were out today and have gritted the secondary routes and carried out another major route gritting run. We received deliveries of salt today which has helped to keep our salt stocks healthy.

The night shift will shortly be in place and they will continue gritting the major routes through the night. We are expecting more heavy snow and strong winds which is likely to result in drifting. For this reason the snow ploughs are being fitted to the front of the gritting vehicles.

Snow clearance has continued throughout today concentrating on areas such town centres, school entrances and sheltered housing complexes. As recycling and refuse collection has been suspended some of this clearance work has been carried out by the waste collection staff working alongside street cleansing and grounds maintenance staff which means that we have been able to work quickly through the snow plan.

Waste collection will be reviewed again in the morning and a decision taken in light of the road conditions. I will keep you informed of any changes.

Thanks for your patience
