CHAFFORD Hundred Business and Enterprise College has received a welcome boost after an encouraging monitoring report from government inspectors Ofsted.
The school had been given notice to improve after a dismal inspection last year.
The inspection team noted that GCSE results had improved significantly in 2007 especially Maths which is now above the national average.

They have also applauded the role of specialist status subjects, business studies and maths.
Praise was given to improvements in teaching, guidance, support to students and monitoring systems.

Senior management also won plaudits for their ability to identify improvements needed and constructive feedback.

Finally, the governors were credited for undertaking considerable training as part of the overall improvement at the Mayflower Road school.

The inspectors levied criticism at Thurrock Council for being unable to provide additional specialist governors and the lack of precision in its action plan.

Headteacher,Chris Tomlinson was pleased with the report. He said: "From governors, staff, pupils and parents, it has been a whole team effort. "We have balanced innovation with accountability which is vital. But it is only half time. We have high targets for examinations in the summer. We want to continue to be a school that the community can be proud of."
