Residents will be pleased to note the continuous improvement to facilities in Chafford Hundred. This time, I focus on the work done in the Library:
Computers
Two additional People's Network computers were installed Library in 2006 (this was part of the refresh your Conservative Cabinet approved for the refreshing of all Library computers across Thurrock at the cost of £160,000). This therefore brings to 8 the total number of computers in the library which CHCampus maintains.
Book Stock
The book stock in Chafford is dealt with as part of the general book purchase for all libraries. Chafford receives a higher percentage of children's and young adult fiction and non-fiction stock than might be the case for a library extant of a school.
Also, although its small in size, due to the nature of its use and its catchment area, its stock levels are in line with larger libraries such as Belhus.
Not in Stock Books
The Council has now have changed the methods of supplying a broad range of titles that can be relatively easily updated. This has been done by taking out a subscription to Brights Books, a service that allows us to rent titles for a minimum of 4 months and encourages frequent refresh to make sure that stock is being used.
If borrowers need any books which are not in stock, they may request material free of charge from any library within Greater Essex as part of Thurrock Council's partnership working.
Alternatively, the books could be borrowed from the British Library at no charge if there is no other way to satisfy a request.
