Council Tax at 3.5%

The Cabinet has decided on a 3.5% Council Tax increase for Thurrock Residents.

The decision was made in light of the huge expenses which have been imposed on the Council by the government without adequate funding to go along with it.

Thurrock is 43rd of 46 Unitary Councils on the council tax ladder, with only 3 other Boroughs having a lower Council tax than us. We have achieved this by cutting off excess baggage and inefficiency from the Counicl.

We have increased our frontline services, increased our recycling, put more money into policing the community, etc to ensure that Thurrock is a clean, healthy and secure place to live.

The decision will be debated at the full council meeting on 25 Feb 2009.
