JACKIE WELCOMES GO AHEAD FOR A13 IMPROVEMENTS

Media Release

Date:    7th July 2014

From:   Jackie Doyle-Price Member of Parliament for Thurrock

JACKIE WELCOMES GO AHEAD FOR A13 IMPROVEMENTS

Today the Government has announced that the A13 widening scheme will go ahead thanks to the Local Growth fund.

This comes on the back of the widening scheme already confirmed at Junction 30 of the M25 which will commence later this year at a cost of £150m.

Taken together, these two schemes will significantly alleviate the traffic congestion that Thurrock's motorists encounter on an all too regular basis.

When I was elected four years ago, the dual carriageway on the A13 east of Tilbury and the bottlenecks at Junction 30 were seen as the biggest impediment to achieving growth in South Essex.  I am pleased that this Government is to deliver on both.  I promised I would be a strong voice for Thurrock and I have continuously lobbied Ministers on these issues.  I am pleased that this effort has borne fruit.  I am only sorry that these problems were not tackled a decade ago.
