Thames Gateway Minister Mark Francois visits South Essex Economic Powerhouse

The new Minister for Thames Gateway visited High House Production Park where he visited the Backstage centre, the Royal Opera House workshop and was briefed about the wider regeneration plans for Thurrock.

Jackie said, "There is no doubt of the potential for jobs and growth here in Thurrock and more widely across South Essex. In order that we can maximise those growth opportunities it is important that we build relationships with Government as well as with other local authorities and business partners to deliver the South Essex economic powerhouse. It was good to be able to share our vision with Mark who is both a South Essex MP and the Minister responsible for growth in our area.

I believe that since the demise of the Development Corporation there has been a step change in Thurrock with everyone coming together to deliver on this agenda. That is how we were able to make the case to secure Government funding for the A13 and for the developments at Purfleet. I stand foursquare behind the efforts of Thurrock Council and local businesses who have worked within the Local Enterprise Partnership to achieve this. For my part I will continue to use my voice to promote our case to Ministers in Government.

But going forwards we will need to build ever stronger relationships with our South Essex neighbours if we are to be able to continue to punch our weight. Greater cooperation with Southend is a start. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts and there is much to be gained for the whole of South Essex if we can achieve greater collaboration.
