Support for PSPO for cruisers

I totally support the proposal to give the police more powers.

There has been a menace of boy racers in Chafford Hundred with residents having to endure noise from revving engines and screeching tyres almost every weekend.

Any legislation which will support and enforce the police action is very welcome.

The Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime Act 2014 enables Councils to issue a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) after consultation with the relevant bodies. PSPO’s are designed to stop individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour in a public place.

The Police have requested that Thurrock Council look at putting in a PSPO to address the ongoing and historical issue of cruisers in West Thurrock. This will provide additional powers of enforcement through fixed penalty notices than the current dispersal notices, in addition to the requirement to promote the order.

The Police have collated a file of evidence and support from residents and local businesses. I am contacting you as ward councillors to request that you provide me with a statement of community impact on your local residents in support of this PSPO. This can be done either collectively for all Chafford, by the 2 ward areas or individually.
