Road Development - Comments Pls

The Council commissioned a study in the South Stifford area (which includes Chafford Hundred area) examining the possible future land use and transport impacts.

A draft report addresses two broad issues:
1) Management of existing HGV traffic associated with industrial uses in and around the study area.
2) Long term traffic management associated with changes of land use from industrial to residential.

In respect of the first issue, a number of options have been generated for future management of traffic, based on the three principle access routes - Devonshire Road, London Road and the previously proposed West Thurrock Marshes Relief Road (Phase 2: Hedley Avenue - Wouldham Road link).

The Council is undertaking public consultation on the outcomes of the draft study to inform a final report.

You will recall that an officer from Mouchel (the Consultant) and the Transport Manager from the Council attended the Forum in May to present and discuss the issues arising from the draft report. They also showed the maps with the various options.

Further discussion will also take place with the Development Corporation, who are already aware of the issues and options.

The matter will also be reported to Overview & Scrutiny before the final outcome of the study including consultation is presented to Cabinet in September.

Please let me have your comments on this report.
