Chafford Primary School

To set the facts clear:

1. I am a governor in Chafford Primary School and I am not one of those who resigned.
2. The resignation had nothing to do with the extra class which the Governing Body previously decided to have in the School.
3. Last Ofsted result in 2007 assessed the School as 'good'
4. The last exam results were good.

As a governor, my roles are to ensure that the School is run to promote pupil achievement. I need to set the strategic direction, policies and objectives; approve the budget; and review progress against the school's budget. Finally it includes challenging and supporting the headteacher.

The 7 governors resigned from the School after challenging the management of the School about the finances. I too have challenged the managment of the School when required, but I also support the School too.

The governors resigned due to concerns they have with the finances of the School and management decisions about the use of the resources. However, in this current climate, everyone is concerned about finances.

I did not resign because I think working together to address any challenges and ensure that the Children receive the best education is a better way forward. Like me, there are other governors aware of the full facts who also did not resign.

As I said in the press (see link below) I respect the governors that resigned for their views, but moving forward, the focus should be on ensuring that the children continue to receive the best education.

Very true Tunde, but can you explain why a school that has had 8% increase in budget of all schools in the authority actually need to make redundancies? A school that has an increasing roll unlike other schools that could not balance their books due to falling rolls?

How many governors left on the GB have actually attended the crucial meetings in regards to the budget and redundancy issues since the start of January besides the 3 staff governors? I think parents need to know that there are only 4 non-staff governors left on the GB. So stop skirting around the issues and deal with the head-on!
