140 Properties off Howard Road Approved

Thurrock Thames Development Corporation have again refused to listen to the voice of residents, councillors and Thurrock Council Planning Committee, by giving final approval for this scheme.

When the developers decided to amend their plans for the proposed development which required further approval, residents signed a petition opposing the development, Cllr Veryard and I objected to it and Thurrock Council Planning Committee recommended a refusal of permission. Unfortunately the Devt Corp did not listen and now the site as been given final approval.

The final plans include 6 three-bedroom houses, 6 four-bedroom houses and 4 five-bedroom houses. It also includes 6 studio flats, 50 one-bedroom flats, 55 two-bedroom flats and 13 three-bedroom flats.

The main positives for residents are:
  • GPs surgery
  • Money contributed to education
  • Money contributed to youth provision
Cllr Steve Veryard and I had raised numerous concerns about the plans which fell on deaf ears - click link for my 4th letter to the committee - (http://www.thurrocktgdc.org.uk/swiftlg/apas/MediaTemp/393-3476.pdf)

We also submitted residents petition to Council opposing the proposal.

The Plans were considered and rejected again by the Thurrock Council's Planning Committee on Thursday March 12, but due to the scale of the development, but the unelected quango - Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation have now granted approval.

Many thanks to the residents who signed the petition and to those who directly submitted the letters objecting to the development to the Development Corporation.

Councillor Tundie, you are either very dishonest or very incompetent. "Bannatyne's" have not submitted any planning applications for a development off Howard Road. The land in question is not owned by "Bannatyne's" The owners name will be clearly shown on the application. What "Bannatyne's have done in your area is created 60 jobs and provided a great facility for the residents.
I am sure you will want to set the record straight on your blog and issue an apoligy through it.

Dear Duncan,

Thank you for your comments which I take your comments very seriously indeed. I have asked the Planning manager of Thurrock Council to clarify the application and the information published in the agenda.

I appreciate the business of the gym, it is very welcome - especially in this economic climate - and utilised by many residents. Residents are only objecting to further dwellings in the area as Chafford Hundred is already over-populated.

The application I am referring to was decided at Thurrock Council Planning Committee on Thursday 12 March 2009. It refers to the site:"Bannatyne's Health Club Howar Road Chafford Hundred", with
Stephen Howard Homes as the developer of the site. So any confusion has either emanated from the application or the Planning Section of the Council.

Once I receive the clarification from the Planning Section of the Council I will post it here. But in the meanwhile - and to avoid any further confusion - I have changed the heading of this blog to what it was previously.

Happy to discuss.
