This is another major planning issue which will have a major impact on residents of Chafford. The plan is to provide a:
'Secure overnight lorry park and associated facilities building on the land between the A13 and A1306 trunk roads and formation of an access onto the A1306 Arterial Road, North Stifford, Essex.'
Please click on topic for link to the Thames Gateway Planning site - for details of the application.
This is another application where the Thames Gateway Development Corp will have the final say, so whether they take our views on board or not will be left to be seen.
My colleagues Cllr Gary Hague and Cllr Neil Rockliffe
(click their names to send them an email about it) are in the lead as it falls in their ward.
There is already a secure over night parking facility for lorries and other HGV off London Road - next to Procter and Gamble and there is no need for this other one so close to residential dwellings.
Lorry Parks such as this tend to cause:
Such that its location is much better sited away from residential areas.

Secure overnight lorry park planning permission

Cllr Tunde,
Referring to my e-mail to yourself on 15th August 2008 relating to this matter, I have a number of concerns to do with the whole matter of this proposed lorry park on Chaffords door step.
Firstly, I, like a number of residents who will be impacted by this lorry park, work shiftwork which can mean either having to be up at some ungodly hour in the morning, or getting home in the early hours. The last thing that anyone would want if working shiftwork is disruption to sleep, especially with the impact shiftwork has on the body clock.
Now for my main concerns. As with all other residents on Chafford Hundred, I receive the weekly free copy of the Thurrock Gazette, and to my knowledge NOWHERE has there been any mention of the submission of planning permission for this secure lorry park.
This leads me to one VERY worrying suspicious outcome - does this mean that regardless what opposition the local residents and councillor voice to the council against this planned lorry park, that it will be allowed to be built? After all, we voiced our opposition to even more new dwellings on the estate yet through a few increases in certain funds relating to resources on the estate, a rosier picture was painted that the builders would be effectively "contributing" to the local community, yet in reality there will be further competition for school places on Chafford.
Councillor, what is firstly needed is for the whole of Chafford to be made aware of these propositions that for most people seem to have been slipped in on the quiet - the first I came across this proposition, as mentioned in my e-mail to yourself that I still have not received acknowledgement of, is that my mother was asked to sign a petition at an over-50s club that she attends, and despite living less than 100yds as the crow flies from the site of the proposed lorry park, not one piece of paper has come through our letterbox of the plans.
Also, what is wrong with the empty land that was formerly the coach park for Lakeside when that first opened, and seemed to have been closed when the newer multi-storey car parks were built at the Debenhams end? The land is already hard-standing, albeit needing a good weeding, is a long way away from other houses, is easy to access for HGVs and in theory, could be open for use within days of planning permission being granted. After all, this bit of land has been closed for well over 10 years and is just sitting there.
Councillor, we call upon you to firstly make the residents of Chafford Hundred aware of this proposal as what appears to be part of the Thames Gateway Development, and then to rally round everyone to fight this proposal with as much force as can be mustered. The residents of Chafford Hundred, as you know, have had to roll over and have things inflicted on us, but this is something that has to be fought. The last thing that anyone would want to endure on a permanent basis is the revving of lorry engines, the hissing of air brakes, the clunking from loading and unloading trailers, irrespective of what "guarantees" are given with regards to reduction in noise pollution, especially if in the current climate, anyone needs to sell their house and is faced with the disappointment of people not wanting to buy their houses purely because of the lorry park.

Tunde, I am at odds to understand why this is the responsibility of your 2 colleagues, rather than that of you and Veryard.
Granted this may fall in their area of jurestriciton, as they represent more than just Chafford. However you must surely recognise that the houses most immediately afected by this, arenot the ones in the other 2's wards, but in your ward.
Therefore I put it to you, you need to get up and sor this out for your ward, never mind leaving it to the other 2. It's hardly going to make their constitituents by the SandMartin unhappy, as it's the wrong end of Chafford, but take your constituents for instance in Howard Road, Fleming Road etc. Shouldn't you be fighting this for them, as they will be more affected by anyone else, although we'll all be affected by the massive amount of traffic, especially when the superport opens and we'll be crawling with lorries anyway.
