Thurrock Hospital

(From Thurrock Gazette)
PLANS to build a new community hospital for the people of Grays have taken a major step forward and a planning application for the development is now being prepared.
Pam Court, chief executive of South West Essex Primary Care Trust, said: "People who live in Thurrock have told us how much they need and want new facilities, and have waited patiently to see them develop. We are delighted to be able to report tangible progress in making their vision a reality."
A cluster of sites at the southern end of Hogg Lane has been identified in the Grays Town Centre Master Plan as the potential location for a development to meet health needs in Thurrock.
Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation will take the led role in developing the 2.5 hectare site, which will provide the focus for local health and social care services, including a complementary range of primary health and social care, diagnostic and treatment services.
Among the work required will be major improvements to the existing access road located to the south of the site.
The Development Corporation, which has already acquired the Territorial Army Centre and the Grays Auto Centre site. is already engaged in acquiring properties and will continue to negotiate voluntary agreements with affected parties.
Where it does not prove possible to purchase on a voluntary basis, the Corporation has resolved to use its compulsory purchase powers. The first part of this process is to identify those parties with interests that are likely to be affected by the proposals and the Corporation has issued notices to secure this information.
A planning application for the comprehensive redevelopment of the site is being prepared and will be submitted later in the year.
